Neurodiversity-affirming therapy isn’t about applying a fixed set of interventions or goals. Instead, it’s grounded in a mindset—one that recognizes, respects, and genuinely celebrates the wide range of strengths, challenges, and interests that exist across all neurotypes.
In the past, many approaches focused on trying to “fix” neurodivergence, often leading individuals to mask who they are, sometimes at the expense of their mental health. An affirming approach shifts away from that model, focusing instead on understanding and honoring each person’s unique way of being.
By creating space for acceptance and appreciation, therapy can support meaningful growth and well-being. This approach encourages individuals to embrace their authentic selves and find ways to thrive that truly align with who they are.
As a neurodiversity-affirming clinician, I’m committed to ongoing learning and to consulting with neurodivergent colleagues, so I can continue providing thoughtful, informed, and compassionate care.
