Pet loss & Traumatic Grief
Losing an animal can be heartbreaking. For many people, pets are family. They are part of our routines, our comfort, our sense of home, and sometimes the ones who helped us get through some of the hardest seasons of life. When that relationship is lost, especially suddenly or after a difficult medical journey or euthanasia decision, the grief can feel overwhelming. And often, people around you do not fully understand the depth of the loss. I work with people who are struggling after the loss of a beloved animal companion and who may be carrying not only grief, but trauma, guilt, shock, or painful memories connected to what happened. Sometimes the loss brings up anxiety, intrusive memories, or emotions that feel hard to move through on your own. Whether your loss was recent or years ago, you do not have to carry it alone.
Using EMDR therapy and a compassionate, trauma informed approach, I help clients process both the grief and the trauma that can come with losing a pet. I also offer EMDR intensives for those looking for more focused support.
With training in animal assisted services, I understand how deep the bond between people and animals can be. This is real grief, and you do not have to minimize it here. Healing does not mean forgetting your pet. It means finding a way to hold the love and memories without feeling overwhelmed by the pain.
